I purchased this product in mid December 08, and I used it about every other day for almost 4 months since the day that it arrived. Not because I lost interest or found it ineffective, but because as I began to use it today, nearly four months later, the soldering that connected the pedals to the frame cracked and broke away.
I used it for both legs and arms and do not believe that I used it improperly in any way. Although, because of the “feet” grips not having much of a grip, (without support, the pedaler would inch away), I had to prop it against a wall for support to keep it from constantly moving away. Doing that, I believe, might have put too much pressure against the soldering and might have contributed to it’s very short life.
This is the second pedal exerciser that I purchased and both came apart within the first few months of use.
If the manufacturer of this product will read this, then I, as a customer that has now purchased two of these, would say, connecting the pedal to the frame by another sturdier (such as having the pedals inserted into a forward facing molded hook underneith where the solder would have been that would slide into and attach to the base and secured by a spring collar or something) and more “repairable” means other than just soldering, could make the product much stronger and longer lasting.
Because when it breaks apart, there really is no way to repair it short of taking the broken parts to someone who can solder it back together somehow. But because when the solder breaks, it takes part of the hollow metal tube with it, it will not really be the same again.
The Duro-Med Knock-Down Pedal Exerciser is a good product, and I gave it 5 stars because it really is an effective and convenient exercise machine that does what it is supposed to and is a great addition to an exercise regimen, and I really did benefit greatly from its use.
So, although I purchased two of these and neither lasted for very long, I would still consider purchasing another from a manufacturer that offers a much sturdier make or heavy duty version.

I got this to be something I could put under my desk and use while I was working, to burn some extra calories.
…lo and behold, when I tried to use it in that manner, my knees would hit the desk, rendering the device useless.
I would have returned it, if my roommate hadn’t already thrown away the box. Now I have minimal use for it, when sitting on the ground and reading, by setting the cycle in front of me and pedaling with my hands.

This pedal exerciser is pretty good. I got it for my dad who has had circulation problems and he uses it while he watches television. His only complaint is that the middle gets very hot when he uses it and that the rubber “feet” don’t grip the floor very well so it tends to slide while he pedals. Other than that, he says he likes it and uses it almost every day.

The only drawback is if you are using it for upperbody and have short arms the position you have to sit in can hurt your back.

I’m so disappointed. I LOVE this product. BUT it only lasted 2 months, before the weld broke & made it unusable.
IF you can find a reasonably priced one THAT LASTS, go for it.
As for me, don’t have the time to initiate contact with the manufacturer, to see about any considerations, so I’ll be forced to just seek a “sturdier” one. a
