I hope someone from gamecycles sees this, if not oh well.
I got the magnetrainer today and by sitting on it for a few hours not trying very hard I burned over 2,000 calories. Can you believe it?!
Neither can I. Casual cycling simply does not burn that many calories. Possibly half that much at best. This was my biggest dissapointment, as I’m a big time calorie counter. Whatever you do, do not rely on the machine to tell you that you just burned half a lb of fat by doing almost nothing.
My only other gripe is that it doesn’t sit still. Velcro pads underneath the stand will fix that on carpet, and some sort of suction or soft rubber could possibly fix it on hard surfaces. Either way something needs to be done.
I was able to improvise, I took their velcro strap (I don’t have anything to tie it to, as I’m on a couch where the legs are off to the side so it won’t directly counter the forward push) and wrapped it around the back stand of the magnetrainer. It does a decent job latching onto the carpet and as long as I don’t go over 20 on speed at moderate resistance, it stays put.

The stabilizer leg of the Magnetrainer was poorly designed. As some suggested, I placed this unit against the wall so it wouldn’t keep sliding away during pedaling. When I did that, the screw that was supposed to hold the stabilizer in place ripped a solid line right through the metal. The velcro straps they provide are a joke. They don’t work at all.
What I had to do was use my stair-stepper (I knew it would come in handy for something) against the wall and tilt it up so it was leaning against the bike unit but higher than the stabilizer. I will also use 2 belts normally used to hold my pants up in the back of the bike as additional support.
All Magnetrainer had to do was drill some holes in the stabilizer bar and have the screw go completely through it to provide rigid support. Instead, I have spent hours trying to keep this unit from sliding and stripping the metal when I used the wall to keep it from sliding.
Now this thing looks like a hideous frankenstein bike, but at least I’ve solved (I hope) all the stability issues and can finally start burning some calories.
2 stars for very poor design. Once all the issues are fixed, then it is a decent way to exercise.

how accurate the counters are. It seems as though I am burning way too many calories and going very far for just sitting and cycling.

I am pleased with this mini exercise bike so far. I had another one that lasted only a year. This one looks and feels like it will last longer. Just like the last one, though, you will need to place it on a non-skid surface. Otherwise, it will “walk” away from you as you cycle.
